Jason Lillis Reacts: Cray Valley Performance / What Went Wrong on Saturday / Bouncing Back
Ramsgate’s Head of Coach and Development, Jason Lillis, has reacted to Saturday’s loss against Cray Valley PM.
“I am very disappointed with Saturday’s performance against Cray Valley,” Jason said.
“Over the last few weeks the boys have done incredibly well, so to then have a performance like that against Cray, I was frustrated.”
“Some of the lads never stepped up yesterday, and that’s the brutal reality unfortunately.”
When quizzed as to what he thought went wrong against Cray Valley, Jason insisted his side must make use of the ball much better.
“If we give the ball away too much, as well as being sloppy in possession, it’s always going to be difficult.”
“We already know that we need to be much, much better on the ball, but against Cray, that was probably our worst performance so far.”
“We lost 2-0, and both of their goals were from set pieces, but other than that, they didn’t really have any chances,”
“We didn’t score either of course, but it goes to show that a lapse in concentration is the difference, because in open play I think we defended excellently.”
“I believe Cray Valley had a poor game on Saturday, and that disappoints me even more because that’s a massive opportunity lost for sure.”
Saturday’s defeat was the first under Jason Lillis and Terry Sedge, alongside Joe Radford, but Jason has tipped his players to recover.
“As far as I’m concerned, I bounced back on Sunday morning. The defeat is behind us now and we have to move forward.”
“This will be a real test of the character in this side - can they bounce back? I’m confident they will, and I’m sure they are confident they will too.”
