Match Report: East Grinstead F.C 1-0 Ramsgate F.C
It was end to end stuff in the opening 15 minutes, though little opportunities came of it. Tom Chapman had half a chance in the 6th minute when his acrobatic effort was scuffed inside the box from a dangerous Jake Mackenzie cross.
Grinstead’s Ryan Johnson had a long-range attempt go wide of the post in the 20th minute, unable to trouble keeper’ Luke Watkins.
Ramsgate’s best chance of the game came after 28 minutes of action. Gil Carvalho bombed down the wing and delivered a good ball into Kane Rowland who’s shot went over the bar.
A few minutes later, Jake Mackenzie broke away from his man on the wing and made a smart pass to put Rory Smith through on goal - his shot was saved by East Grinstead keeper’ Brannon Daly.
On the verge of half-time, Jerson Dos Santos scored an outstanding free-kick to give the home side the lead going into the break.
The second half was back underway, and it began in very similar fashion to the first.
Ryan Johnson had a low driven shot inside the box saved by Luke Watkins in the 51st minute - an important stop.
Tom Chapman forced the Grinstead keeper’ to make a great stop in the 65th minute after Rory Smith delivered a lovely pass out wide to the winger, who beat his man before unleashing a powerful shot that was eventually saved.
After a lot of scrappy play in the closing stages of the match, Chapman had a wonderful opportunity to equalise late in the 93rd minute but couldn’t manage to trouble the opposition goalkeeper, scuffing his shot in the box.
Overall, it was a disappointing performance all-round, and the difference was a moment of magic from Grinstead’s Jerson Dos Santos.
