Match Report: Hastings United 3-0 Ramsgate FC
After a slow start from both sides, Hastings were able to take the lead in the 9th minute. Hastings defender Jamie Fielding hoofed it long for Daniel Ajakaiye to give chase, who held up the ball excellently before teeing up teammate Bradley Stevenson, who had a pop from outside the area, beating Luke Watkins with his low driven effort. The Ramsgate keeper’ will know he could have done better.
Moments later, Hastings had the chance to double their lead but were stopped in their tracks when Ollie Gray made a clearance off the line after some frantic defending from Ramsgate.
Hastings goalkeeper Louis Rogers was called to action in the 19th minute, saving a powerful effort from TJ Jadama at a tight angle. The midfielder found some space in the box to exploit and came close to equalising for The Rams, which was a much more promising sign after a disappointing start.
Hastings very nearly went close to doubling their lead after 28 minutes. The home side went long, and Daniel Ajakaiye was able to beat George Crimmen in a race to the ball before being taken down outside the box by Luke Watkins, receiving a yellow card for his wrongdoing.
Luke Watkins pulled off a terrific save from the resulting free-kick, keeping it out with his fingertips for the score to remain 1-0.
Hastings’ Sam Adams could’ve doubled the deficit in the 34th minute if it wasn’t for some heroic defending from Ollie Gray in the 34th minute, putting his body on the line to keep them at bay.
The home side, who were comfortably on top, did eventually get their second after some confusion between Watkins and his defenders. The Rams keeper managed to pull off a great save to deny Hastings initially, before losing track of the ball, allowing Daniel Ajakaiye to snatch it from under the keepers’ legs and tap it home in the 39th minute.
HT: Hastings United 2-0 Ramsgate FC
The second half began in similar fashion to the first, with neither side looking particularly great. There didn’t seem to be any rhythm to the game.
Nigel Neita had Ramsgate’s first chance of the second half in the 64th minute, hitting a powerful effort from 25-yards which was outstandingly saved by the Hastings United keeper to tip it wide.
Mikey Dalton was able to clear a headed effort from Jack Tucker off the line in the 82nd minute following a corner.
But, just a couple of minutes later, Daniel Ajakaiye put the final nail in the coffin - his low driven effort beating Watkins to cement a 3-0 victory.
