MATCH REPORT: Haywards Heath 2-1 Ramsgate FC

16/11/2019

Ramsgate fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Haywards Heath on Saturday afternoon.

At 2-0 down, a 10-man Ramsgate managed to pull a goal back, but it wasn’t enough to take anything from the game.

KICK-OFF:

It was the home side that began the match on top as Ryan Warwick tested Jonathan Miles inside two minutes. Comfortably saved.

Aaron Lamont dispossessed Byron Napper in midfield before driving forward and taking on the shot from the edge of the 18-yard box, causing the Heath keeper’ a problem. Nothing came of it though.

Ashley Miller was one-on-one with Luke Glover following a lovely ball over the top from Tyrell Mitford, but his effort was well saved.

KEY MOMENT: Callum Saunders put Haywards Heath ahead as we approached the half hour mark. His drilled effort inside the box left Miles with no chance.

Ryan Warwick could’ve doubled Haywards Heath’s lead towards the end of the first half. Warwick knocked it past Paxman and struck a shot across goal with his left-foot but it was just wide.

SECOND-HALF:

Tom Wynter was sent off after just two minutes of second-half action.

KEY MOMENT: Henry Watson doubled the lead for the home side with a towering header at the back post following a corner.

KEY MOMENT: Kane Rowland halved the deficit after he rounded Luke Glover and tapped in to shine a glimmer of hope for 10-man Ramsgate. Ashley Miller played a vital role in the goal, breezing past Hamish Robinson and playing a great pass to Rowland on his right. The striker did well to control the ball before finishing off the move - an instant impact off the bench.

Ramsgate had a great chance to equalise with a quarter of an hour to go. Miller, down the left, created a problem for the Heath defence again, leaving his man before whipping in a low ball across the face of goal. Jude Arthurs made the run into the box but his outstretched foot couldn’t get to the ball and the chance went begging.

Late on, Arthurs floated a ball to Rowland inside the box, unmarked, but his headed effort was agonisingly wide of the post.

Rob Saunders should have scored with the last kick of the game in the 95th minute. Lamont put a dangerous cross into the box which was met by Liam Friend, and he nodded on to Saunders, but Saunders’ effort was somehow saved by Luke Glover from 3-yards to ensure Haywards Heath nicked all three points on the day.
