Match Report: Herne Bay F.C 1-5 Ramsgate F.C

06/02/2019

Ramsgate began the game a bit nervy, making sloppy passes and gifting the opposition with some early chances.

The first big chance of the game come in the 14th minute, a Herne Bay free-kick on the edge of the box. His effort was just over the bar and didn’t test Luke Watkins.

Herne Bay kept the pressure on and had the momentum in the opening 20 minutes.

Ramsgate took the lead in the 25th minute via Charlie Dickens who headed in from the corner - Rory Smith with a great delivery into the box.

3 minutes later, Connor Sanders doubled The Rams’ lead with a scuffed shot inside the box. Chapman delivered a great ball into the box, but Kane Rowland couldn’t keep control of the ball and it fell to Sanders who created an opening for himself and scored.

Another 5 minutes later and it was 3! This time, Rory Smith managed to dazzle his way through the Herne Bay defence, a run that lasted from the half way line, before unleashing a left-footed shot on the edge of the box that beat goalkeeper Simon Overland - an exceptional solo goal.

But Ramsgate weren’t done there, Tom Chapman wanted to get in on the act before the break and tucked away a nicely placed shot on the stroke of half-time. It was a wonderfully worked team goal that saw Davis’ side triumph 4-0 in the first-half.

On to the second half, and it didn’t take long for Ramsgate to pick up where they left off. Chapman beat his man before firing a low shot inside the box past the Herne Bay goalkeeper to make it 5-0 after 50 minutes of action.

Herne Bay did manage to nick a goal back in the 61st minute courtesy of Harry Miller, though it was only a mere consolation and Rams keeper’ Luke Watkins will be disappointed not to keep a clean sheet.

Surprisingly, hardly any other clear-cut chances came after that and it was just a comfortable victory that was managed well for the remainder of the half.

Nick’s side continue to add pressure to the team’s above with a play-off spot still in sight.
