Match Report: Horsham F.C 1-0 Ramsgate F.C
Ramsgate immediately started the game on the front foot, retaining the majority of possession early on. A nasty clash of heads between George Crimmen and Horsham’s Rob O’Tolole halted play for a short time in the 7th minute, thankfully both players came out unscathed.
Play was a little bit scrappy from both sides for the majority of the first half, with just one attempt on goal in 32 minutes - a Horsham’s free kick.
Ramsgate were somewhat sloppy in possession at times, but most notably Ollie Gray was usually there to recover the ball. It was a great first half performance from him.
Luke Watkins made an outstanding save in the 33rd minute in what looked like a certain goal from Horsham’s number 10. It was an effort inside the box from extremely close range after the Ramsgate defence was caught out, but Watkins did well to spread himself and keep it at 0-0.
Tom Chapman had Ramsgate’s first shot on goal just outside the 18-yard box in the 40th minute - the attempt never troubled the Horsham goalkeeper, but it was a sign of better things to come.
The first half ended 0-0.
The second half began, and Horsham ramped the pressure on straight from the off. But Ramsgate slowly began to get a feel for the game.
Tom Chapman burst down the wing and lost his man before setting up Kane Rowland in the box who had a decent shot on goal in the 54th minute. His shot deflected out for a corner. Nothing came of it.
Millbank then forced Horsham goalkeeper Josh Pelling to make a great save in the 57th minute - cutting inside from the right to unleash a powerful strike that the goalkeeper could only parry. The danger was eventually cleared.
The deadlock was broken in the 76th minute, Horsham taking the lead in a rather controversial manner with calls for off-side turned down by the linesman.
It was a heated ending to the game, both sides finishing the match with 10 men.
Rob Saunders' second yellow in the 90th minute means he will miss Ramsgate's next match against Greenwich Borough where Nick Davis’ side will look to respond.
