MATCH REPORT: Horsham U23's 5-1 Ramsgate U23's
Ramsgate FC U23’s fell to a 5-1 defeat against Horsham U23’s in the Bluefin Development League on Tuesday evening.
Warren Schulz’s side took the lead early on but an inspired Horsham side feared not, striking five goals to thrash the young Rams.
Ramsgate were quick out the blocks and started well, dominating possession and causing Horsham plenty of problems.
Tom Finn was a handful for Horsham's right back and after a brilliant run, Tom managed to glide by the right back into the box, only to be brought down in the area. Rams were awarded the penalty and a chance to take the lead. Up steps Tom Finn to tuck the ball home with a clean, calm finish.
With a well deserved lead Rams pushed on and came close when Elliot Farmer delivered a pin-point cross finding Ryley Twyman. Ryley met the ball with a perfectly timed header, agonisingly striking the post.
As the half went on, Horsham began to find their feet and showed some neat link up play. Horsham started to put pressure on the Rams defence, forcing some good saves from Carl McCourt.
Still, Horsham pressed on in search of way back into the game. They caught the Rams out inside the box, failing to clear their lines and William Goddard slotted home to give Horsham the equaliser
Rams were forced to defend in numbers with Horsham on the front foot, showcasing why they are unbeaten so far. Rams managed to hold on to go into half-time all square.

Sloppy with their passes out from the back, forcing more unnecessary pressure on themselves.

Shortly after, Goddard was on hand again to slot the ball home making it 3-1.
The Rams had a tough test ahead, but it was Horsham that found the net twice more making the final score 5-1.

Following the game, Ramsgate U23’s manager, Warren Schulz, said:
“Not once did our young Rams drop their heads while under pressure, they worked right up until the final whistle.”
“Again, credit to a squad with an average age of 17, the lads will learn so much from games like this. It’s your losses that will teach you the most, especially against more experienced sides.”
“We all know that this season is a learning curve for them, and they are all very committed to the future ahead. A future that I can see being bright with this group of lads.”
“We travel to Three Bridges on Wednesday - another tough test for us but one we are looking forward too.”
