Match Report: Margate FC U16's 2-2 Ramsgate FC U16's
The Kent Youth League Ramsgate U16’s earned a hard fought 2-2 draw, in the local derby, away at Margate on Sunday.
With 2 players suspended, it was a massive blow to lose our captain, Adam, to an awful tackle in the first 5 minutes of the game, but Rafe stepped up and did a superb job, looking like he’d never been away.
He was supported by the other boys in defence, with both Harvey and Brook doing a great job of screening them.
Margate deployed some intimidating tactics and at times we could have had some better protection from the referee. However, our class shone through and the lads stuck to our game plan excellently, which was rewarded when Brook scored a worldly of free-kick to go in at half-time with a 1-0 lead.
The second half was tough for both sides, having to play against the wind in awful conditions. Margate managed to scupper an equaliser following a poor clearance from Ramsgate. But, after being awarded another free-kick not so long after, Brook stepped up with another spectacular finish, giving The Rams a 2-1 lead.
Unfortunately, a quick corner caught us sleeping and was turned in for the equaliser, which was frustrating, as we could have held on for the win.
But it led to an exciting finish, with both sides going close. It ended 2-2.
