MATCH REPORT: Ramsagte FC 2-0 Whitstable Town (Velocity)

Ramsgate stepped up their efforts for Velocity League qualification with a 2-0 victory at home to Whitstable on Tuesday night.

Goals from Liam Friend and Bode Anidugbe secured the win as the Rams also kept a clean sheet against Lloyd Blackman’s side.

Jude Arthurs, on his debut, nearly opened the scoring after just 30 seconds of action. Paxman whipped a dangerous ball into the box from the right which was met by Arthurs at the back post, but his effort went over the bar.

Following some great build-up play between Miller and Arthurs on the left-wing, the former picked out Aziaya charging into the box in space, and he tested the keeper’ with a volleyed effort which was saved by Dan Eason.

Arthurs had the ball in the back of the net in the 7th minute but the off-side flag was up. Paxman delivered a cross into the box and Miller was able to get the shot off, but the Whitstable goalkeeper could only save it into the path of Arthurs who made no mistake to tuck it away.

KEY MOMENT: After a fast start to the game, The Rams were rewarded with the opening goal inside 10 minutes courtesy of Liam Friend. Arthurs cheekily flicked the ball over the defenders head into the box and it was met by Kane Rowland who nodded it on to Friend who was open in space to direct his header into the back of the net.

The Ramsgate defence did extremely well to limit the visitors to little to no chances, but at the half-hour mark, Whitstable had their best chance of the game. It was a scramble inside the box which led to a flurry of shots at goal, but the Rams put bodies on the line and the danger eventually transpired, keeping the narrow lead in tact.

Aaron Lamont went close to doubling the deficit as Dan Eason, the Whitstable keeper, had a howler! Lamont had a go from 30-yards and Eason nearly spilled it into the back of the net. Massive let off for Whitstable.

KEY MOMENT: A few minutes later the lead was strengthened as Bode grabbed his first goal for Ramsgate with a nicely placed finish to the bottom left corner. Rob Saunders was played in down the wing and the full-back tee’d up Bode inside the box who calmly finished.

If the game wasn’t already dead and buried, Ashley Miller had the chance to cement the win after Arthurs was brought down inside the box, earning a penalty. Miller, who went down low to the right, saw his spot kick well saved by Dan Eason.

Rory Smith had the last chance of the match. He was released through on goal down the right and charged into the box before striking a low shot at goal which was expertly saved by Dan Eason.
