MATCH REPORT: Ramsgate Fall to 2-0 Defeat Against Hythe Town
Ramsgate suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Hythe Town in the Isthmian League on Saturday afternoon.
Second half goals from Kaka Dembele and Sam Blackman ensured all three points for the visitors.
The result means Ramsgate are without a win in their last 8 matches and remain 18th in the league table.
Ramsgate made 4 changes to the side that faced Whitstable Town last weekend as Brooks, Paxman, Morrell and Binder all came in to replace Miles, Friend, Wynter and Hallett.
Chapman (wrist) and Gray (hamstring) remained out and are nursing injuries.
STARTING XI: Brooks, Paxman, Binder, Saunders, Morrell, Carrington, Arthurs, Bode (OFF 83’), Miller (OFF 65’), Campbell, Rowland (OFF 72’)
SUBS: Roberts, Bancroft (ON 65’), Barrett, Robinson (ON 83’), Mitford (ON 72’)
Hythe could’ve got off to a great start had it not been for Harry Brooks. The Rams keeper made a finger-tip save onto the bar early on to deny James Rogers’ header at the front post.
Neither side were able to create many openings in the first half and after a decent effort from Rogers in the 4th minute, it took until the 32nd minute before either keeper was called to action again. This time, Sam Blackman’s free-kick was magnificently saved on to the bar by Brooks to the despair of Hythe.
Tom Wynter, who had just joined Hythe during the week, nearly scored a spectacular own goal but was bailed out by former Ram, Will Godmon. The defender headed back to the keeper, but Wynter completely misjudged the pass and a racing Godmon charged back to clear off the line. That would have been something…
Ashley Miller had the ball in the back of the net for Ramsgate before the half came to a halt, but it was agonisingly ruled out for off-side. Saunders’ ball up the left channel found Campbell on the wing, and after beating two defenders, he marched into the box and set up Miller from 20-yards. His shot curled around the defenders and brushed the side netting, leaving the keeper rooted to the spot, but the linesman already had his flag up for Campbell earlier on. Confusion surrounded the stadium for a questionable off-side call.
HT: Ramsgate FC 0-0 Hythe Town
Hythe managed to break the deadlock a few minutes into the second half as Kaka Dembele headed home from Nathan Gordon’s first-time cross from the left.
The visitors then doubled their advantage soon after through Blackman. Alex Flisher’s initial free-kick from 25-yards forced Brooks into a save but he failed to keep hold of the ball and Stephen Okoh picked up on the rebounds. The Hythe number 11 picked out Blackman inside the box to tap in from close range.
Ramsgate nearly caught Hythe out on the counter-attack, led by Ramsgate new boy Toby Bancroft. The Gillingham youngster carried the ball forward from midfield and played Paxman in down the right, and he smashed it along the ground for Mitford at the back post, but his outstretched leg couldn’t reach it and the chance went to waste.
Brooks was forced into another good save late on, keeping out Nathan Gordon’s powerful effort inside the box.
