Match Report: Ramsgate F.C 1-1 Three Bridges F.C
Three Bridges dominated possession early on, though very little come of it. Nick Davis’ side struggled to get a grip on the game to start with.
Ollie Gray had Ramsgate’s first chance of the game in the 9th minute. Jake Mackenzie delivered a threatening ball into the box from a set piece which was headed at goal from 8-yards, but Gray’s effort was just wide and out for a goal kick.
Tom Chapman broke the deadlock in the 35th minute, giving The Rams a 1-0 lead. Gil Carvalho beat his man for pace on the left-wing and fired in a pinpoint cross with his left foot to Chapman who headed home from close range.
Kane Rowland very nearly doubled Ramsgate’s lead with his half-volleyed effort on the edge of the box which whiskered the post in the 39th minute.
Rory Smith will know he should have scored in the 42nd minute. Chapman managed to find plenty of space down the right-hand side and surged down the right-wing before laying off an inch perfect pass inside the box to Smith, who’s low shot inside the box was struck straight at the goalkeeper.
It was a far from lively first half, but Ramsgate found the much needed breakthrough to give them the lead going into the break.
The second half got underway and Three Bridges looked like they came out with a point to prove, but The Rams seemed to cope rather well.
Three Bridges defender Nathan Simpson nearly cost his team a goal in the 56th minute. His back pass to his goalkeeper fell short, allowing Rory Smith to cause havoc and chase down the ball. The keeper’ just about managed to reach the ball first but could only clear it as far as Chapman, who’s shot was blocked outside the box by the keeper. Ramsgate had appeals for hand ball turned down.
Seconds later, Chapman was in space on the left-wing, delivering a dangerous ball into the box and into the path of Kane Rowland. His sliced effort was saved and the forward managed to catch on to the rebounds before goalkeeper’ James Shaw charged out to clear his lines, taking down Rowland in the process. Appeals for a penalty were once again turned down, controversially.
Against the run of play, Conner French equalised in the 67th minute after a moment of misfortune from Jake Mackenzie and Luke Watkins. The full-back failed to clear his lines successfully, allowing the Three Bridges attack to catch the Ramsgate defence off-guard and snatch an equaliser.
End to end stuff for both sides in the closing stages of the game, Ramsgate the most likely to score, though no goals come of it. Overall, a disappointing draw.
