MATCH REPORT: Ramsgate FC 2-0 East Grinstead
Ramsgate Football Club triumphed to their first league win of the season after defeating East Grinstead 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
A brace from Kane Rowland ensured all three points at the Southwood Stadium, whilst The Rams also kept a first clean sheet of the league campaign.
Ramsgate new boy Alhagi Touray went close to goal early on with his headed effort going just wide of the post in the 13th minute.
Touray did score a few minutes later but it was ruled out for off-side immediately. A good finish down low to the keepers left, though.
Touray was at the heart of the action once again in the 24th minute, and this time the forward miscued his header inside the box, heading wide. It was initially a great corner taken by Lamont, finding Friend at the back post who set up Touray, and the striker will know he should do better to force a save from the goalkeeper.
KEY MOMENT: The Rams broke the deadlock in the 28th minute and Kane Rowland was the man responsible. Lamont’s corner delivery to the back-post was headed across the face of goal by Tom Wynter into the path of Rowland, who simply couldn’t miss from close-range.
East Grinstead’s Gil Carvalho fired a warning to Ramsgate as we began to approach the end of the first-half, cutting inside from the left onto his stronger right-foot and having an effort on goal from 20-yards. The former Ram very nearly found the top right corner.
Kane Rowland went agonisingly close to doubling the deficit with the last chance of the half. Rowland set himself before having a go in similar fashion to Gil Carvalho a few minutes earlier, also very nearly finding the top corner.
HT: Ramsgate FC 1-0 East Grinstead
Ramsgate began the second half on the front foot, just how they ended the first.
Bode Anidugbe nearly increased the advantage with his effort in the 47th minute. Following some wonderful hold up play from Rowland, he was able to set up Bode inside the box, but his shot rolled wide.
KEY MOMENT: Rowland did increase Ramsgate’s advantage 3 minutes later, grabbing his second of the match in the process. Jonny Steele’s cross into the box from the left was met by the head of Friend, who made a perfectly weighted pass into Rowland before he finished the move off with a deserved goal.
East Grinstead could’ve had a consolation goal late on into added time when Dean Brown had a free header inside the box. The forward was left unmarked inside the box but his attempt brushed past the post, meaning Ramsgate’s clean sheet remained in tact.
