MATCH REPORT: Ramsgate Settle for a Point Against Phoenix Sports (Ramsgate 1-1 Phoenix)
Ramsgate FC had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Phoenix Sports in the Isthmian League on Saturday afternoon.
Full-back Jack Paxman broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, but a late Liam Friend own goal meant the points would be shared on the day.
Phoenix’s Jeff Duah-Kessie nearly opened the scoring for the visitors early on as Ramsgate were caught out on the break. Lauris Chin found himself in space inside the box before whipping a cross back post where Duah-Kessie eventually headed wide.
Bode was presented with a great opportunity in the 9th minute after he was played through the middle by Miller before unleashing a low-driven shot at goal from the edge of the 18-yard box, but it was saved by Steve Phillips.
Miller failed to capitalise on a dreadful defensive error from Phoenix. Jack Hopkins, in his own half, played the ball straight to the feet of Miller and he attempted to chip the keeper’ from range, but the chance was wasted.
Fans witnessed some lovely football from Ramsgate late on in the first half. Bode crossed the ball to Miller at the back post and he put a first time cross into the box which was met by Rowland, but his powerful effort on goal was blocked.

A miscommunication at the back between Jonathan Miles and Jack Paxman nearly gifted Phoenix a goal before the hour mark, but after an initial mix-up the danger was cleared by the full-back.
Paxman put The Rams ahead in the 65th minute with a drilled finish down low to the keepers’ right. In the build-up to the goal, Rowland played it to feet of Bode outside the box, and whilst he was urged to “shoot!” by the crowd, he remained composed and played Paxman in, who tucked his shot away into the bottom corner for his first of the season.
A Jack Morrell corner in the 72nd minute was almost spilled in by the Phoenix keeper, and moments later a brilliant effort from Miller at a tight angle brushed past the post.
In the 88th minute, a moment of despair erupted the stadium as a Liam Friend own goal ensured the spoils would be shared.
