Match Report: Sevenoaks Town F.C 1-1 Ramsgate F.C
Sevenoaks began the game on the front foot, having the first chance of the game in the 4th minute. Ryan Fowler powered a shot from 20 yards, forcing keeper’ Luke Watkins to make a smart save which was eventually cleared.
Ramsgate had their first effort of the game in the 7th minute, Tom Chapman from a tight angle unleashed a powerful shot that Sevenoaks goalkeeper Louie Catherall could only parry, fortunately for them Kane Rowland couldn’t reach the rebounds in time and it was cleared.
Rory Smith whipped in a dangerous ball from a corner in the 13th minute, and after a scramble in the box, Ollie Gray very nearly produced a special goal - his acrobatic effort was scuffed though.
Ollie Gray was involved again, this time at the other end of the pitch pulling off a goal saving block from Sevenoaks’ Tommy Whitnell in the 17th minute. Courageous defending.
Just a minute later, Gray was in the thick of the action once again, this time his headed effort from inside the box was hit just over the bar.
Tom Chapman produced a lovely bit of solo play in the 19th minute, taking on three players from the halfway line and beating them all before his low-shot inside the box was saved comfortably by the keeper.
After a nice bit of play from Rory Smith down the left-hand side, the forward tested the keeper with a powerful strike inside the box. Louie Catherall could only save his effort into the path of Rowland who struck the bar with his headed effort in the 40th minute.
Within a minute of the second half getting underway, Kane Rowland managed to strike the bar once again with another headed effort from close range. Sevenoaks will be grateful to still be level after 46 minutes.
Luke Watkins was called to action in the 51st minute, saving a powerfully struck volley from Frankie Sawyer inside the box
Rory Smith was able to release Gil Carvalho through on goal in the 57th minute, beating his man on the left-hand side before his attempt on goal was saved by the keeper and out for a corner.
From the resulting corner, Rory Smith did give Ramsgate the lead in the 58th minute. This was certainly one from the training ground and it was executed perfectly. Smith took a short corner to Chapman who laid it off perfectly back into the path of Smith before surging into the box and squeezing a low shot past the Sevenoaks keeper’ from a tight angle.
Seconds before that goal though Luke Watkins was heard shouting “DO IT! DO IT!” - I guess that’s what he was talking about!
Sevenoaks’ Frankie Sawyer was gifted an equaliser when Luke Watkins was caught out at the back, allowing the forward to score a simple tap in. A moment of madness and a moment Watkins will want to forget for sure.
Chapman very nearly caught the oppositional keeper’ off his line, his cross-shot coming agonisingly close to nestling the top corner, instead going over and out for a goal kick in the 69th minute.
The remaining 20 minutes of action was somewhat scrappy between the two sides and whilst a draw was probably a fair result in the end, Ramsgate will be disappointed not to get the win in the circumstances. In hindsight, it’s a good point away from home.
