Match Report: Whitstable Town 1-0 Ramsgate FC
Rams Suffer Defeat Against Whitstable
Ramsgate FC started brightly and Aaron Millbank had a golden opportunity to give the Rams the lead in the 10th minute but the Whitstable goalkeeper made a smart save down low.
The home side came close in the 21st minute but Rams defender George Crimmen threw his entire body in the way of a shot and managed to keep out an almost certain goal.
Whitstable’s Stephen Smith managed to nick a goal from a corner against the run of play to give them a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute before Chris Elliot struck a beautiful free-kick, which was excellently saved by Luke Watkins to keep the deficit at a minimum heading into the second half.
Ramsgate were quick out the blocks in the second half, but opportunities were lacking. It was a rather lacklustre second half performance from both sides, actually. The Rams never had enough going forward and fell to an agonising 1-nil defeat - their fourth loss in a row.
Nick Davis admitted his side were not at their best today but that the Rams would've been good value for a point.
"I can’t fault the players commitment today, they gave their all on a very difficult pitch against a difficult side," he said.
"A draw would have been a fair result today but it wasn’t to be. We dealt with their balls in the box really well for the majority of the game but the one time we were not tight they scored."
