Matt Longhurst on: U21/Reserves Side - Introduction of Development Centre - Summer Soccer School

Matt Longhurst has been keeping a watchful eye on the current U18, U16 and reserve groups at the club in recent weeks, as well as getting involved in a coaching capacity.

In turn, the Rams boss has selected an elite group of players to make up an U21/reserves side for next season.

“The side will have a mixture of current reserves and U18’s, as well as some fresh faces including the return of Wade Hughes who joined Maidstone United last season. He’s bought into the vision at the club and looked excellent in training on Thursday. He’s only 15, coming on 16, but he’s an exceptional talent and we’re pleased to have him back.” Matt said.

“We’re also looking to bring in another young forward next week from another Kent-based side. He’s 17-years old and has hit 50+ goals in youth football over the last few seasons. He has a fantastic attitude to learn and will go straight into the first-team group.”

“If I’m being honest I am getting really excited about the group Warren [Schulz], Gavin [Schulz] and Vinnie [Jones] will get to work with. There’s certainly some exciting prospects within their team that are capable of making the jump to the senior team in the future.”

Ramsgate FC also has plans to open a Youth Development Centre towards the end of the year, as well as a summer Soccer School.

“Over the next four or so months, myself, my staff and some first team players will still be keeping an eye on all the development sides within the club.” Matt said.

“The development centre will allow us to grow and mature our most talented players further.”

“I’m also excited about the Summer School that will run during the school holidays at the end of July. Dates and times will of course be revealed in due course.”

“We now have over 90 coaches working with over 600 players at Ramsgate FC and we are proud of the hard-work we are putting in to create a clear pathway for talented youngsters who deserve opportunities.”
