Matt Longhurst Reacts to Ebbsfleet Win -

23/01/2020

Matt Longhurst has reacted to Tuesday nights 4-0 victory against Ebbsfleet United in the Kent Senior Cup.

“It was obviously an interesting fixture - Ebbsfleet sent over a young group of players but we only had two players over the age of 22 ourselves.

“Some of our young lads did really, really well again, Farzad [Haidary] impressed and looked more assured in possession with the ball than he did in the first game he played. That's a testament to him, the staff and the senior players in the group who have helped him benefit.

“Charlie Meade came off the bench late on to make his debut. I had a good chat with Charlie a couple of weeks ago when he was on the bench against Hastings and I think it’s important that some of our youngsters aren’t rushed into the thick of the action.

“Being able to watch from the sidelines will also benefit the players whilst easing them in to aid their development.

“To be fair, Ebbsfleet are known for having decent young players and if they haven’t made the grade into the first team, opportunities always come around in our division - so there’s a lot of talent there

“Tyrell Mitford has had to be patient for me in recent weeks but he did well, as did Ashley Miller. Will Thomas was assured at the back, Tom Coyne did well again, Harry Norman set the tempo in midfield and all the other players did well of course.

“[Nick] Treadwell was excellent again when he came on and probably could have scored a couple if not more. In and around the group he’s been excellent, professional and certainly the right type of character to assist the less senior players.

“I’m delighted Kane [Rowland] could come on and grab a couple of goals and an assist - that will do his confidence the world of good.

“Overall It’s a pleasing result, a pleasing performance, a clean sheet and four goals at home. You can only beat what’s in front of you.

“It was certainly a great exercise going into training tonight and an extremely important fixture against East Grinstead at the weekend.”
