Nick Davis - Character and Togetherness to Come Back From 2-0 Down is Best Thing to Happen to us This Season
Ramsgate come back from 2-0 down to earn a point away to VCD Athletic on Saturday afternoon, and Nick Davis believes it's the best thing to happen to his squad so far this season.
“What a game of football that must have been for the neutral.” Nick said.
“I thought for the first 25-30 minutes we were unbelievable, and we could have been two or three goals up.”
“We missed the penalty, and we didn’t take our other chances. It was incredibly unfortunate but as I say - if you don’t take your chances you can get suckerpunched. That’s exactly what happened.”
“They caught us on the counter from our own corner which was disappointing but they have pace in their team and they are a good side. Of course they’re going to punish us if we give them the opportunity to.”
“To be fair to VCD, for 20 minutes we couldn’t get near them. They set up excellently and were difficult to break down once they had their two goal advantage.”
Ramgate went into the break 2-0 down, but Nick Davis made it clear to his players that they could still take something from the game.
“I said to the lads at half-time, ‘If we get this next goal, we will get something from this game, maybe we will even win it’ and fortunately that rung true.”
“If the match had gone on for another five minutes, I think we would’ve [won it].”
“At the end of the match, I told my players ‘This feels like victory, but it’s only a point from 9. However, the character and togetherness to get back into the game from two goals down was the best thing to happen to this team to date’ - and I firmly believe that.”
“We still aren’t where we want to be, I think everybody knows that, but we’ll get there. We look forward to next week against Ashford and Arundel."
