Nick Davis: We Gave Everything Against Haywards Heath - Player Commitment Cannot be Faulted
Nick Davis has praised his defence and says his side "gave everything" against Haywards Heath on Saturday.
"I thought we were the better side in the first half, and the second half was perhaps 50/50," Nick said.
"It was a difficult surface to play on yesterday for both sides to be fair, and it affected the way we could play somewhat,"
"I think we got in some really good areas against Haywards Heath, but the final ball let us down,"
"Chapman got in time and time again, as did Gil, Nigel when he come on, but our decision making in the final third wasn't good enough."
"Other than that, I can't criticise the players' commitment, they didn't stop working,"
"I always like to look at the positives - the defence was outstanding and they did well to keep a clean sheet,"
"It's difficult because at the moment we've got nothing to play for other than pride, even though these games are obviously very important to myself and the players,"
"We gave everything, I don't care what anyone says."
Following a 0-0 draw, the Rams boss admitted his side aren't too far away.
"If they're 5th in the league and we are able to compete like that, it becomes clear that we aren't a million miles away," Nick said.
"We should, without a doubt, have a lot more points on the board then we currently do,"
"You go back to the likes of Three Bridges, Sevenoaks, Cray Wanderers, VCD, and even yesterday against Haywards Heath is another example. We deserved better in all of those games,"
"It's fine lines, most of the teams in the league are evenly matched and we are aiming to be competing with the sides in the play-off spots next season. That's the aim."
