Rob Saunders Issues an Apology to Ramsgate Supporters Following 7-0 Defeat on Saturday

30/12/2019

Ramsgate defender, Rob Saunders, has apologised to supporters following Saturday’s 7-0 defeat away to Sittingbourne.

“First of all, on behalf of the team, I would like to apologise to those who travelled Saturday and to those who put time and effort into the club as Saturday’s performance clearly wasn’t good enough.”

“The thing that makes the result even more frustrating is that we dominated large parts of the first half but unfortunately didn’t get rewarded with a goal. Defensively we were sound and until the goal we didn’t actually allow Sittingbourne a shot on target. The goal just before half-time did change the topic of the team talk, however we tried to remain positive as the goal stemmed from a mistake and they didn’t open us up.”

“The goal at the restart affected us more than it should have as we’ve gone from competing to going 2 goals behind in a matter of minutes. However it didn’t justify what happened next.”

“Going down to 10 men at 3-0 down obviously didn’t help, but that’s where as a team we should have shut up shop and tried to threaten them on the counter and try to cause at least some problems. However, as a team we just capitulated and became too open.”

“I believe in the last two games we’ve shown glimpses of what we can do which should be enough to remain positive and it’s just a case of being consistent for longer periods.”

“As a squad we’ve had a long chat and have made sure we bounce back as soon as Monday at training in preparation for the game against VCD, in which we are looking for a reaction.”

“Thank you for your continued support.”
