Terry Sedge Reacts: Sevenoaks Performance / Injuries + Depth / Ashford United Away
Ramsgate’s Terry Sedge has reacted to Saturday’s 3-1 defeat away to Sevenoaks Town.
“I thought we were very poor on Saturday, which was incredibly disappointing off the back of a win against Herne Bay on the Tuesday prior.”
“We played the system well against Herne Bay but on the weekend against Sevenoaks it was a total different story.”
“I don’t think the boys were confident enough to play the passes we needed them to play, because our play is about doing well in tight areas, drawing teams in to create space elsewhere, playing the vital pass at the right time… we did none of that.”
“All of a sudden, we switched to a 4-4-2 in the second half and the players wanted to work and get in behind. We were on the front foot for the last 30 minutes, but the damage was done.”
An injury to Ollie Gray in the opening 15 minutes forced the defender off meaning Nick Treadwell and Rob Saunders had to slot in at centre-back alongside Liam Friend at different stages of the game.
“I wanted to stay positive, but obviously the squad is becoming a little bit depleted at the moment with injuries and players moving on to seek pastures new,”
“Hopefully Ollie’s injury isn’t too serious but it certainly affected how we played thereafter - it’s not easy playing out of position but Nick and Rob gave it a go.”
“We have to find solutions and ways of getting around that with the players available to us - that’s all part of the game we love.”
“We also need to players to believe in themselves a little bit more and not worry about taking a risk now and again, because that is a difference maker.”
Now, Ramsgate travel to the Homelands Stadium to take on Ashford United in the clubs next Isthmian League match.
“Our next game against Ashford now becomes even more important for us, but it doesn’t get any easier, of course.”
“We will need to be on our A-game, that's for sure!”
