Terry Sedge Reacts to East Grinstead Win and Looks Ahead to Herne Bay on Tuesday Night
Ramsgate’s 2-0 win against East Grinstead on Saturday afternoon marked the club’s first win and clean sheet of the 2019/20 league campaign.
Terry Sedge explained the ‘philosophy’ at the club and insisted The Rams have got off to a perfect start.
“I was really pleased with the performance because we haven’t really had the chance to do anything on the training ground yet,” Terry said.
“Our communication was only verbal today because of that, but the players responded fantastically I must say.”
“We’ve always had a philosophy where, if you don't concede, you don’t lose, and then let your forwards do the talking. So, that was our basis to start from.”
“Obviously we are quite happy with the defenders we’ve got, but evidently something needed to be tinkered to make sure we are not conceding the amount of goals we have been.”
“We know we have work to do at the other end of the pitch too because we are the joint lowest scorers.”
“But, there certainly wasn’t a lack of opportunities against East Grinstead - we scored two yet still probably wasted a couple.”
“Of course the forwards need to score sometimes to relieve the pressure off the defenders, so there’s plenty to work on, but we’re very happy with the win and the clean sheet. It’s a perfect start.”
Terry has hinted that Ramsgate could ring the changes on Tuesday night when Ramsgate take on Herne Bay in the Velocity Trophy, potentially giving other players the opportunity to prove a point.
“We will take this win into our next game, it’s obviously a confidence builder for us, but Tuesday night could look a little bit different.”
“There are some boys who weren’t involved against East Grinstead that we need to have a look at to assess what options we have available.”
“At the end of the day, I think it’s important to give all the players an opportunity to show what they can do and what they can offer us going forward.”
“We also have to remember that the boys worked really hard on Saturday and some may feel a bit leggy.”
