Tom Coyne - It was an Honour and a Massive Step up For me to Make my First Team Debut

On Saturday you put in a very mature performance against a difficult VCD side - nobody would’ve thought you were 17. Were you happy with your performance on your debut?

Tom Coyne: I was very disappointed with the result but I was happy with my performance despite being very nervous at the start. I made a few mistakes but I will learn from those with more experience.

Despite the disappointing result, what positives can Ramsgate take from today’s match?

TC: I definitely thought we deserved more out of the game, at least a draw. We defended well as a team for the majority of the game and created some good scoring opportunities in the second half which we were unlucky to not score from. On another day we would’ve came away with a win.

How big a step is it to make from the U23’s as a 17-year old, all the way to the first team where you put in a MOTM display?

TC: It was an honour and a massive step up for me to play in the first team on Saturday. I have the manager to thank for selecting me alongside some great players. The intensity and difference in quality are the biggest differences. I hope I get the opportunity to play again this season, and I’ll try my best to put in another good performance.

Does the clubs faith in the Youth system encourage you?

TC: Definitely, I feel like there are some great opportunities for Youth players at ramsgate now with the new management and coaching team. An abundance of Youth talent alongside all the good experienced first team pro’s is very good for the benefit of the club. When an opportunity knocks, you have to take it.
